BSH Home Appliances increases manufacturing capabilities at its Chennai plant
The Chennai facility reaffirms the company’s ‘Make in India’ commitment scaling manufacturing of key consumer durables categories
Chennai, 18 October, 2021: BSH Home Appliances, Europe’s largest home appliances manufacturer and one of the world’s leading company in the sector has today announced plans to increase production capabilities at its manufacturing plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu with a focus on the refrigerator category.
With the refrigerator category booming in India, BSH’s Chennai factory will cater to the growing demand in the refrigerator segment across the country. The refrigerators plant will now hold the manufacturing capacity of 4L units.
Since inception of the facility, the company has manufactured 1.3 million washing machines for India since it started production of front loaders in 2014, 0.5 million mixer-grinders since starting production in 2018 and 2 lakh units of modern chulha targeted at rural consumers since 2019. Going forward, the company also plans to manufacture cooktops and top load washing machines in India.
Commenting on the launch of the new factory, Neeraj Bahl, MD & CEO, BSH Home Appliances said, “We are excited to increase our production capabilities at the Chennai manufacturing plant, to meet the growing consumer demand in the refrigeration category. With the expansion of the facility, we aim to strengthen our contribution to the Government’s Make in India programme and fulfil our commitment towards the country and Indian consumer, who has shown trust in us for categories like Washing Machines, Dishwashers, Premium Built-in kitchen appliances. With this launch of refrigerator range which are made in India made for India, we expect a similar response we received in other categories.”
Over the years, BSH Home Appliances has invested ₹300 crore at its Chennai facility to set up this refrigerator plant.
